The African Data Centres Association (ADCA), in partnership with Cap DC, has produced the first serious review of African data centres and PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness), “White Paper: African Climate & Datacenter PUE”, which was selected as an indicator of datacenter efficiency.

The white paper can be downloaded from the ADCA website (click here).

The main and unexpected finding of the study is the average PUE of African data centres at 1.79, which, given the climatic conditions on the continent, is not as bad as the average PUE of data centres calculated by the Uptime Institute at 1.67. These newer and more modern data centres have many other surprises in store…

The study was led by Olivier Labbé, Managing Director of Cap DC, who gave us an exclusive podcast interview to discuss the main findings of the study.
